Snippet – DEM Tutorial 1: Silo filling and discharge

This video shows a particle simulation of the filling and discharge process of a silo. For this simulation we use the discrete element methode open source software liggghts.

Silo and bunker systems are used in every material handling system whereby bulk materials have to be temporarily stored. The need for intermediate storage arises primarily for the following reasons:

1. Creation of technological reserves to smooth the process order, e.g. with different throughputs of interlinked plants
2. Increasing availability by creating interference reserves to compensate for system failures in the event of material flow or operational disruptions
3. Increase in product quality through homogenization of mass flows, particle size distributions, densities and chemical compositions

I saw the youtube vedio https://youtu.be/bCfCpjNuSVQ & it was very useful.
Is there any way in which i can do settling of particles in a container. Using LIGGGHTS simulation.?
I am doing a work in which the simulation required is filling particles in a cylindrical container(closed) , to do growth of the particle & finally settle them in the bottom based on varying diameter of particles.
Is any code available for settling ?
